Daley Training

Daley, double Olympic Gold medallist and the world’s greatest ever all-round athlete offers training sessions for those who wish to kick start their fitness, whilst at the same time enjoying the company of a double Olympic Champion in the unique surroundings of Desert Springs.
“My sessions will work best for those who want to take their fitness to a whole new level. Every session will be based on achieving all-round fitness, whilst at the same time being fun, challenging and of course hard work!”

A Brief Biography of Daley Thompson
At the 1984 Los Angeles Games, Daley Thompson won the Olympic decathlon title for the second time to advance his claims resoundingly as being one of the greatest all-round athletes the world has ever seen. By the time he retired from the sport in 1992, he had set four world records, he had become world champion in 1983, he had claimed the European championship title in 1982 and 1986 and he had won the Commonwealth title in 1978, 1982 and 1986.
Throughout the 1980s, he was unquestionably the world's greatest decathlete and he managed to win 19 decathlons in all - including 12 in a row. He always thrilled the crowds with his unparalleled competitive ability and his ongoing battle with West Germany’s Jurgen Hingsen dominated the sport during that period.
Thompson competed in his first decathlon in 1975 and, just one year later, he took part in his first Olympics. He progressed rapidly, setting three world junior records in 1976 and 1977 and the first of his 10 British and Commonwealth records in 1976.
At the Moscow Olympics in 1980, Thompson clinched a gold medal of the highest quality when he proved to be the complete master of the 10-event competition at the tender age of 21. Then, two years later in the Olympic Stadium in Athens, he won the European championship for the first time while also recapturing the world record. Having seen the record he had set in Gotzis, Austria that June tumble to Hingsen, he bounced back to score 8,774 points and break the West German’s best by 21 points.
In Helsinki on August 15, 1983, Thompson added the world championship gold medal to his impressive clutch of Olympic, European and Commonwealth titles. He saw off a three-pronged West German challenge with relative ease, winning by 105 points from Hingsen, the-then world record-holder, with a total of 8,666 points.
Almost a year later to the day, Thompson put the seal on his impressive career, when he won the gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics. He amassed a total of 8,797 points that left his great rival Hingsen trailing by 123 points. Victory in his final Olympic appearance cemented Thompson’s place in the pantheon of the greatest athletes of all time.Tennis, Paddle & Volley

Cricket Practice Facilities
Desert Springs is fortunate to have connections with some really great cricketing super-heroes. Beefy Botham, is a villa owner on the resort and an enthusiastic golfer on the course, all but snatching the 2006 Club Championship. Meanwhile, Dave Roberts, ex-England physio, brought Freddie Flintoff to Desert Springs for re-habilitation following his operation, prior to the Ashes. It seems to have worked!
Our own cricketing efforts are on an altogether more humble plane, but we do offer some excellent new practice facilities for warm weather pre-season team building and training. Taken together with the golf and all the other many top quality relaxation and leisure opportunities at Desert Springs for both Senior and Junior teams, it does amount to an outstanding venue.
There are two mobile cage nets with artificial wickets and a Professional Bola Bowling Machine with 28 ball feeder. There is also a slip catch cradle and there are both full length artificial and grass wickets laid out on the football field. The grass wicket does of course require some notice for its proper preparation.
Cricket packages are available with accommodation on the Resort or at a nearby hotel. Normally lunch is included at The Crocodile Club.
