Travel Information

Almeria International Airport is the fast growing local airport for the Almanzora and Desert Springs. An easy 40 minute drive along the E15, a new and virtually empty section of the Autopista de la Mediterrania motorway, which skirts the the Cabo de Gata National Park and the majestic Cabrera Mountains, brings you to the Almanzora and to Villaricos, Playa Marques and The Desert Springs Resort & Golf Club.

The region is also served by two other international airports, Murcia and Alicante. Both are less than two hours away by car, again all but directly via the E15, making the area easily accessible using both chartered and scheduled 2 1⁄2 hour flights from all parts of the UK and Europe.

As a result of considerable investment in the area from the EU, the State and the Autonomous Community of Andalucia, there is an excellent modern and under used road transport system in the area.

Directions From Alicante Airport To Desert Springs and Villaricos

Your total journey distance is approximately 202 km/125 miles, to Desert Springs with a driving time of approximately 2 hours, and a further 8 km/5 miles to Villaricos.	Distance (km)
As you leave the car park of the airport turn left onto the one way road, and the N338, following the signs for Murcia A7/E15.	1.0
Join the E15 and continue towards Murcia. Be careful at the junction with the N301 to keep on the E15/N340 following the signs for Alcantarilla/Almeria/Granada.	70.0
Keep travelling along the E15 until you turn off at junction 537 sign posted Cuevas del Almanzora / Antas.	120.7
As you come off the slip road turn left back under the motorway, all the time following the signs to Cuevas del Almanzora on the A332.	5.0
This road ends at a T junction, where you must turn right in the direction sign posted Vera onto the A352.	1.6
Take the first left hand turning sign posted Palomares, on the ALP 212. Continue along this road to the Desert Springs entrance on the right hand side.	3.3
For Villaricos, do not turn, but continue on the ALP 212 until you reach the Palomares roundabout.	3.9
At the roundabout, take the second exit sign posted Villaricos onto the ALP118. Follow this road to the next roundabout.	1.7
Take the left hand exit to Villaricos. Carry on until you cross the Almanzora River bridge and then take the first right hand fork down into the Village.	2.8
Our Playas del Almanzora offices are immediately on your right, La Fortaleza is a little further on to your left.	0.2

For El Timon turn left into the plaza and then left again.	0.1
Finally, for Harbour Lights do not turn into the plaza but continue straight on through, following the Maritime Paseo to the little port, Harbour Lights is then on your left.	0.3

Directions From Murcia Airport To Desert Springs and Villaricos

Your total journey distance is approximately 150Kms/94 miles to Desert Springs with a driving time of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. This route uses a toll road with a maximum car fee of 11.50€. Be sure to start the drive with at least ¾ tank of fuel; there is only 1 petrol station, at about half way, and you might miss it as it is not directly off the motorway.	Distance (km)
After leaving the car park of the airport, carry straight on at the first roundabout (second exit) sign posted ALICANTE / CARTAGENA. Follow this road to the next roundabout.
At the second roundabout, carry straight on under the bridge, following the sign to ALCAZARES / CARTAGENA.
Follow this road to the third roundabout and take the left exit sign posted AP7-CARTAGENA.
Take exit 800 signposted MURCIA, VERA, ALMERIA. Continue along this road until you reach the toll barrier. Stop and take your ticket.
Continue straight on the motorway until you reach the junction 901 Cuevas Las Lobas, toll is 11.20 € (approx ¾ hour)
Turn right at the roundabout signposted A332 to Cuevas del Almanzora. On coming out of Cuevas, continue straight on the A352 to Vera. After 1.5km turn left (on the bend) to Palomares/Las Cunas AL8104 The turning to Desert Springs is 3.3km on the right hand side

Directions From Almeria Airport To Desert Springs and Villaricos

Your total journey distance is approximately 95kms/59 miles, to Desert Springs with a driving time of approximately 50 minutes and a further 8 kms/5 miles to Villaricos.	Distance (km)
As you leave the airport parking area itself, turn immediately left and, positioning yourself in the left hand lane, shortly afterwards turn left again around the rear of the car park, following the signs for Almeria.	0.2
Follow the road to leave the airport, in the direction sign posted Almeria (E15)/Nijar.	0.5
Just before the first roundabout that you come to, take the right hand slip road sign posted Nijar/Murcia (N344) and continue along this road.	3.3
You will then approach a second roundabout. Take the left exit sign posted Almeria/Murcia (E15/N340). Travel along this road until just before you reach a third roundabout.	2.5
Turn right sign posted Nijar/Murcia (E15) (N340), keep on this road which takes you almost all the way.	78.0
Turn off at Junction 537 sign posted Cuevas del Almanzora and as you come off the slip road turn right in the direction sign posted Cuevas del Almanzora on the A332.	5.0

Car Hire

For airport car hire we generally advise Carjet. They have offices at Almeria, Alicante and Murcia airports.

But when in Spain, for local car hire, we use the local company Crown Rent a Car. We receive no commission, but a small discount is applied for our Clients. They are always very reliable.
