Title: Desert Springs to Host 2007 Spanish International Amateur Open

The Real Federación Española de Golf has announced that the Spanish International Amateur Open, the “King’s Cup” is to return to Desert Springs Resort and Golf Club’s Indiana course in February 2007.

The Indiana Course first played host to the tournament in 2004, just 3 years after opening, and the Royal Federation were so delighted with the experience had by players, officials and spectators alike that they say that the decision to return was very easy.

The Spanish Amateur Open is not only the most important Spanish national amateur tournament, but is also the most prestigious tournament on the European Amateur Calendar and it is a great testament to the quality of the Desert Springs Resort and its Indiana Course that the tournament will be played here for the second time in only 3 years.

To be held between 28th February and 4th March, the 2007 event will comprise a field of the top 132 amateur golfers representing every European country.  Following the tournament’s usual format, all players will complete 36 holes over the first 2 days in a stroke-play competition. Following these 2 rounds a cut will be made with the leading 16 players advancing to the final three days where match-play golf will see players eliminated to decide the champion.

The 2004 event saw young Spaniard Jordi Garcia del Moral set the Indiana Course record with a blistering 6-under par round of 66 but it was the consistently cool play of Icelandic Heidar Bragason that carried him though the match-play stages to lift the King’s Cup as the 2004 Spanish Amateur Open Champion.

With the depth of quality on the European amateur circuit, the 2007 Spanish Amateur Open is sure to extremely well contested with some extraordinary golf on view for all spectators.
